Vertical Oscillating Shuttle Hook System

Most of old sewing machines and some modern models have vertical oscillating shuttle hook system. Here is the tutorial how works oscillating hook device and tips for fix it.
Vertical rotary shuttle and oscillating hooks create the same lockstitch stitches but make it differently.
Such models of sewing machines have oscillating type of hook.

How to disassemble the oscillating shuttle
Holding for the "tail" with fingers you need to pull out the bobbin case.
Let's take a closer and look what's inside the oscillating shuttle.
First, turn both retaining ring clips as shown on photo.
Remove the locking ring with scarfed shuttle hook.
Conditions for the normal work of the shuttle device
Take a magnifying glass and look at its exterior of the hook. Its surface should be smooth without scratches and rusted areas. The hook tip should be sharp.
If the sewing machine skips stitches very often the first thing you need to do check this clearance.
This plate must not be tightly pressed against the driver.
The rotary or oscillating hooks you need regularly clean with double sided lint brush.
The metal moving any rotating parts of hook must be periodically oiled.
How does the oscillating shuttle hook system
Professional sewing machines or some home models (computerized sewing machine) have a hook that rotating in a full circle.
Sewing entry-level machines (for price 200-300$) have hook that oscillates back and forth.
This is the first step of the hook rotation. The hook tip to the needle fits closely. Now the hook picks up the upper thread from the needle. Next move it to right.
This extreme right position of the hook. The thread slips off the point hook and sewing machine thread take up lever begins quickly to pull it up. So way is formed stitch.
Once it has done this, the hook reverses its direction and returns to its original location.
In this position the shuttle is ready repeat your incomplete rotation and create a new stitch.
