Cover Stitch Machine Tips and Techniques

Here are tips on how to use coverstitch machine. Using the cover hem sewing machine is the best method to do hems on your garments that are sewn from knit fabrics.

Types of threads spools

On this photo shows two types of threads spools. Using big cone coil is better.

Two right coils are used to threading the loopers.

The hem of t-shirt

On this photos I will show how to make the hem of t-shirt using the coverstitch machine.
First fold the edge a fabric, as shown.

Press the hem of t-shirt before sewing

Before sewing you need press the hem of t-shirt.

Start sew the hem of t-shirt using coverstitch machine

Start sewing the hem of t-shirt using coverstitch machine on right side fabric.

Wrong side the hem t-shirt

This is the wrong side of folded hem t-shirt.

Trim the fabric above the seam

Now you need trim the fabric edges above the seam.

Another way of hemming using a coverstitch machine

On this photo shows another way of hemming using a coverstitch machine. The fabric edge on wrong side do not need to trim after hemming. This edge is into the seam. But to do it fine you need have a skill or use special presser foot.

The knob of length stitch

This is the knob for adjusting length of stitch a coverstitch machine seam.

Three test options of length the stitches

Before select needed length of stitch I recommend to test options of length the stitches on piece fabric..

The knob of stretch or gather the fabric

Using this knob you can stretch or gather knit fabric. What is it for? Knitted fabrics are very stretchable fabrics and therefore you need to adjust this option before sewing. N - Normal.
Try different options sewing, so you will be easier to understand what is it for.

Using a coverstitch machine you can sew the guipure, lace

Using a coverstitch machine you can sew the guipure, lace, strips etc. Don't forget that coverstitch machine can use other presser feet that you can buy in store additionally to your kit.

Ways of using the coverstitch machines

These photos show some ways of using home models of coverstitch machines only.
But you need know another unusual feature of this machine. The coverstitch machines can use only two threads when works one needle only. In this case a coverstitch machine will make the chain stitch on the wrong side a fabric. And in this case, this unusual specific sewing machine will sew like regular sewing machine.
