How to Disassemble Thread Tension Dial
You are having a problem with thread tension on your sewing machine? The tension a needle thread is very tight or loose? Sometimes need to remove a tensioner and clean it.
You have tightened the thread tension with a control dial as far as it will go but the thread is still loose and bunching up on the bottom of the material. You have tried many ways to fix this problem but unsuccessfully. Try to remove the tensioner with the machine and disassemble it. Sometimes it needs to clean the tensioner from the dust, thread scraps etc.
Remove the face plate.
Look at this photo. These two arrows indicate the parts affecting the thread tension.
Lift up the presser bar lifter. Two tension discs should not push the thread and vice versa.
If tension a thread does not change loosen the set screw.
To loosen the screw it has to be rotated to the left
Take off the thread tension assembly. Take off the thread tension assembly. Grip it with fingers and pull towards you.
The first thing to do is marking the assembly sequence. Some models of sewing machines have the features. If you have no manual you must be sure of how it goes back together.
Now clean the machine area of tension first and parts in the order they go back on.
Check the tension of the bobbin thread. Increased tension - turn the screw clockwise and vice versa.
Sew a few probe stitches. If you still have thread bunching up on bottom side of material you need to check other parameters work the sewing machine. Look the sewing needle. Make sure that thread insert between the tension discs etc.
