Tips for Using your Sewing Machine
If you love sewing, creating patterns and clothes you need use a sewing machine perfectly. Basic techniques for working the sewing machine can be found in the user manual. In this post I suggest you tips and tricks how to use your sewing machine which you will not find in the manual.
Start sewing by turning the handwheel
Start moving the needle of the sewing machine by turning the handwheel. This will avoid mistakes and start stitching exactly at the desired point. This is a good habit to do 1-2 stitches by turning the flywheel manually.
Position of the needle and thread guide
In any case, you need start sewing when the needle is at the bottom position, next to the fabric and the thread guide to be in higher position. In this position of the needle and thread guide you exclude output thread from the needle eye and sometimes even break thread.
The position of the needle while sewing a corner
Keep needle down while sewing a corner or when you turn sew. This trick helps you to achieve a perfectly aligned seam. Note: Some sewing machine models have a button of the needle stop position.
Pay attention to the condition and type of needle
Pay attention to the condition and type of needle. Tip of needle should be sharp and its form fit to the selected fabric sewing. For knit/stretch/jersey fabrics is better to use needle having ballpoint tip. The rounded tip will not tear the fibers of fabric and will pass between them. For jeans need use special denim sewing machine needles etc.
Tip: Before sewing a new project, replace the needle of the sewing machine.
Check thread type and bobbin thread tension
The thickness of the thread in the bobbin should be the same or slightly thinner than the needle thread.
Second rule: adjust the tension of the bobbin thread rarely. Screwdriver can do a notch on the screw of the bobbin case, which will cause of thread breakage.
Needle plate with the markings of seam allowances
All modern sewing machines have the needle plate with tiny parallel etched straight lines that help you sew the straight lines.
How to make an automatic buttonhole
Modern sewing machine sews buttonholes automatic. Look in your manual and read about the buttonhole system. Try on scraps first before make the buttonholes automatic on your garment. You need to adjust thread tension and height teeth of feed dog and foot pressure on the fabric.
The ends of thread pull under presser foot
The ends of needle thread and bobbin thread pull under the presser foot. Take them tails on your left hand and start sewing.
Medical syringe can be a good oiler
Medical syringe can be a good oiler. Remove the needle of the syringe and fill oil. Put the needle back. Now it will be an excellent oiler.
Plastic bobbin easier and better glide
Plastic bobbin is easier and it better glide into bobbin case. If your sewing machine forms a loop on the bottom line, try this advice.
