Here you find the step by step guide on how to thread the Juki Baby Lock serger (BL3 - 407) without overlocker differential feed.
It's an old model overlock that can use three or two threads. Depending on the number of threads is required to set this lever to the numbers 3 or 2.
To help you better see how to thread serger I use different color of threads.
During threading a serger you should use the tweezers. Using tweezers, you can easy to insert a thread in the loopers.
You have to feed the thread up through the loop of the thread guide. Then you feed the thread through these holes two ways. Threads which are twisted into loops need to twist around the rod and insert in the hole, as shown in this photo.
Now you have to feed the needle thread through the left thread tensioner.
Then insert the thread through the thread take-up.
Before stretching the thread through the eye of a needle, cut the thread end.
Holding the thread with the tweezers you can easy insert it into the eye of a needle.
Now it's time to feed the thread of upper looper.
To thread the looper you need to open the cover.
Many overlocks are color-coded paths for the looper thread. Please, attend! Do not miss a single thread mount!
Now you need to insert a thread into the looper hole.
At last it's time to feed the thread of lower looper.
Following the instructions for the upper looper you can easily to thread through the guides and into the holes of lower looper.
Pay more attention to the lower looper. It has an additional fastening thread guide that is not always easily to see. To see it you need to discover another side cover.
Now we proceed to the most complex case. You need to fill the thread into two holes of the lower looper. To facilitate this process, this model of serger has a special glass window on the needle plate.
In this hole you need to insert a thread.
You can remove the needle plate to see how to feed the thread into the holes of lower looper.
We are now ready to thread through the eye of the looper and threading a serger is finished.
The thread filling scheme can be found on the inside the lid of overlock.
Using different colors of the thread, you can easily determine the correct thread tension of stitches.
Now the thread tension of stitches is correct.
The thread tension of stitches on right side is correct also.
Now you need thread the serger with threads of one color and you we are ready to sew!
