Skirts Vent Sewing Tutorial
The kick pleat is the main and rather complicated detail of sewing a skirt. To do it correctly you need have some skill of sewing a vent.
In this post you will learn how to make the skirts vent correctly and easily.
This vent sewing tutorial is a part of full tutorial of sewing a pencil skirt.
Before draft a straight skirt you need decide what length will be the split and where it will be: on back part or on front part a skirt.
On each side from the center stitching line (on back and front parts) you need add aside 5-6 cm.
Make marking on both sides of vent.
The length of the slit will be 20-25 cm including the wide of hem a skirt.
The wrong side of the left part a vent should be fastened with the fusible interfacing fabric, as shown.
Press the fusible interfacing with steam iron.
Add the one sided fusible strip along the edge of right side a vent, as shown.
Before stitching you need serge both edges of the kick pleat.
Now start sewing a vent on regular sewing machine.
Turn the skirt and continue to sew this seam. At the end of sewing this segment you need fold the upper edge of fabric on 1.5 cm, as shown.
Fold the right side a vent along the marked line and press it, as shown.
Now you need press along the folded strip (1.5 cm) of right part a vent also.
Fold the both parts a vent together and iron it on face side a skirt.
Now you need hem the skirt. Firstly, serge the bottom edge of fabric.
Mark the width of hem line using ruler and chalk.
Fold the edge a fabric along marked hemline and press it well.
Now you need hem a left part of vent. Firstly, fold it, as shown.
At this stage you can stitch this segment together along the hem line.
Turn out this bottom segment of vent on the front side.
It is time to hem the skirt.
If you need, you can make vertical finishing stitches along the edge of both parts a vent.
Make these stitch lines is not necessarily. Depending on the models a skirts, or the properties of sewing fabrics, in most cases is enough using of steam iron only.
Now your vent (kick pleat) is ready.
