For drafting your skirt pattern you need to make only three own measurements. How to take a pencil skirt measurements? It's very easy but you need follow the main rule: The tape around the waist and hips do not need to tighten strongly.
Take your measurements with a fabric tape measure.

Waist - wrap waist as shown in the photo and measure around your waist.

Now take measurement at the widest part of the body - Hips.
Note: The tape around the hips do not need to tighten strongly.

How to Take Measurements - Hem line

For measurements (any pattern drafting) is better use a tailor measuring tape (centimeters or inch).
Now you can measure how long you want your skirt length from waist to kneeline (hemline). Have someone take your measurements of Skirt Length.
The tape you need lay along side of body.
During a drafting the pattern skirt we will use marking: W - waistline; H - hips line; L - hem line a skirt.

Draw a frame first. Take the paper the length of your skirt plus 20 cm, and the width of your widest measurement, divided by two and add back 20 inches.

Now draw a right angle in left part paper where you will draft a skirt pattern.
First mark the point W and draw long line to the right.
From point W go down to 21 - 22 cm. Here will be hips line (H).
Last point L (lenght a skirt) requires no comment.

In this step of drafting a pencil skirt you need to devide the rectangle into two parts of skirt (back and front).
Using these simple calculations draw a vertical center line.

Your basic pattern a skirt will be finished very soon. But in this step we need to do some calculations.
Look for these formulas. They are very simple but you must to understand them before moving on. So we count the difference between your hip circumference and your waist circumference.

The resulting value is divided in half

The resulting value (X) is divided in half (two identical segments).

Helpful tips to drafting a skirt

After drafting the pattern is necessary to make the pattern of any other details of skirt and a belt. They will help you to accurately calculate fabric consumption.

The front part of skirt not have the connecting seam. Therefore, before cutting the fabric fold it in half. Along this fold line attach the front part of the skirt pattern. The back has two parts. On back side of the pencil skirts usually done the vent and zipper.

The seam allowances: the back middle seam and waist - 1.5 cm: two side 2-2.5 cm; hem 3 - 4 cm.

If you not have a table with wide and long smooth surface use any other surface. The fabric can be decomposed on the floor.
Tip for beginners: pin the edges of the folded fabric.

How much you need fabric

The pencil skirt fits into the "one length" plus 10-15 cm if your measurement "Hip" less 130 cm. In other cases require "two lengths" a fabric plus 10-15 cm.
