How To Use a Twin or Double Needle

Here's tutorial for how to use a twin or double needle. Using the double needle you can sew knit jersey fabric and some other decorative stitches.

How to use a double needle? A twin needle you can insert in the needle bar like a usual needle for sewing machine. But it has two needles attached to a single shank.
For sewing with twin needle you must use three threads. Two of them insert in the sewing needles and one will be used for threading a bobbin. The bobbin can catch the thread from both needles.

Before showing how to sew with the twin needle, I made a test piece of fabric.

We will do a double decorative stitch along the seam. Press it before sewing.

Note: number one on the double needle is the space between the needles and the other is the needle size.

Thread your machine with two threads like one thread at a time. Both threads don't get twisted around one another.

Sewing with the twin needle can only be in a straight line. Do not turn the zigzag stitch if in the machine is dual needle!

Before you start sewing on your garment with double needle, take a test stitching.

Check the thread tension. If needed to adjust the upper thread tension.

Now start sewing with double needle.

Select the distance from the double stitches to the seam.

On the wrong side a fabric the twin stitch has only one thread. It will be a bit like winding zigzag stitch.
