How to make belt loops for trousers or jeans. Using this sewing technique you can sew loops for skirt waistband also.
Usually for trousers or jeans need to add 5-6 belt loops. I show you how to make one belt loop and two ways to sew them to the waistband a pants.
For this tutorial i use the fabric and thread having different color.
Before start to make the belt loops you need measure the wide and long your belt loops with 2 cm allowances on both edges.
With fusible double sided adhesive tape belt loops do will be much easier.
I simply serge both edges of a long strip of fabric. If you do not have an overlock you can handle the edges of belt loops with zig-zag stitches.
Now you need lay the fusible double sided adhesive tape on the wrong side a belt loop.
Cut the fusible strip the same length as the final belt loop and turn on the iron.
Now you need fold each side to centerline a belt loop, as shown.
Both sides have to be aligned exactly on the edges. If there is a gap between edges then loop will become wider in this place, and vice versa.
Start to press it with steam iron.
Double-sided adhesive tape will firmly connect the edges of belt loop.
In this form, you will be much easier to make the finishing lines.
Now I'll show you two ways of how to sew belt loops to waistband your skirt or pants.
At the beginning of the manufacture of the loops you have to cut a long strip which will house 5-6 loops. Before attaching the loops to the waist the strip should be cut on 5 or 6 equal parts.
I can cut this test strip only on 2 parts. Every part I will sew to the waist band using different way.
Put the edge of the belt loop at the bottom a waistband and stitch in place.
Now you need fold the strip to the up. The folded loop and the top of the waistband should be level.
Now start stitching. Be sure your sewing machine can sew this place having a few layers of fabric. It is especially important to consider when you need to attach the belt loops on the jeans waistband.
Note: During stitching the top part a strip can be shifted.
Look at this photo. Here shows two ways of securing the belt loop to the waistband. On the left is shown a method as described above. To the right is shown another method. Both folded edges are stitched on the face side.
