How to Make a Zippered Pillow Cover

For sewing the pillow covers you will need a special couch fabric and a nylon zipper. You can use any fabrics but an upholstery fabric will be better.

How much fabric you need for sewing one pillow? It depends on the size of your pillow. As an example - for pillow 50 x 50 cm you need 55 cm (width 150 cm).

Now start sewing a pillow cover.
You will need a sewing machine for at least and preferably a serger. If you not have a serger you can use zig zag.

I cut three parts of pillow cover. You can cut only two parts: front and back sides.
Pin both short parts to the square part an envelope pillow cover. Now stitch each of them with straight stitch and serger these edges, as shown.

These two seams should be press with steam iron on the front side a pillow cover.

Then run your sewing machine along these seam so that the needle lands just off of the edge a seam (with a 1/8 inch).

Now fold the sewn together fabric in half. Align both edges and check the dimensions of pillow cover (square).

If the pillow cover's sizes are correct serger all four sides of fabric. If you do not have overlock run your sewing machine around the edges with the zig-zag stitch. This will keep inner edges a pillow cover from fraying.

Fold the fabric wrong side inside.
Now it is time attach the zipper. Pin it to the edge.

Remove the universal presser foot from sewing machine and set the zipper presser foot.
Now start stitch along the strip zipper.

Repeat for the second part of zipper.

Now close the zipper

and stitch both edges with seam allowance 1-2 cm.

Make the double lines and the pillow cover with zipper will be stronger.

Cut the unnecessary ends of zipper.

Turn out an envelope pillow cover on the right side and fill it with polyester fibre filling or another material.
