How to Sew Mitered Corners on a Blanket
Learn how to sew mitered corners. This tutorial helps you sew diagonal seam at the corners of blanket or tablecloth.
For this tutorial I used small two pieces of fabric which mimic the blanket that have right angles.
Place the quilted fabric on wrong side of main fabric. Mark the four corners with pencil.
Now you need to draw such marking on all corners of blanket using the triangular ruler.
Now you need fold the fabric as shown.
Step back from the edge of the fabric 1-1.5 cm and mark with a pencil.
Now you need stitch all four corners, as shown.
Take a scissors and trim the fabric near the seam.
Now you need cut the fabric here without reaching the seam.
Press these seam allowances open.
Now it's time to turn out the blanket but one more thing needs to be done.
Fold four edges of fabric (1 - 1.5cm) and press it, as shown.
Now you can turn out the mitered corners of the blanket.
At this stage you need insert the quilted fabric into the blanket cover and press well.
Pin the four sides.
Now you need to make last step of sewing mitered corners - sew along inner edges of blanket, as shown on this photo.
The mitred corners look smooth and symmetrical on both sides of the blanket.
The mitred corners create a well looking hem of many sewing projects such as blouses, tablecloths and napkins etc.
