How to Make the Pants Cuff Tutorial

The cuff is best way of hemming boys trousers. The pants that are too long you can fold in cuff, without cutting excess fabric. When your boy gets older you can use the cuff to lengthen the pants. With the cuff you can wear trousers twice as long.
If you cannot do cuff pants use this step-by-step sewing tutorial.
For this tutorial how to make cuffs I used a piece of fabric simulating a half pants leg.

If your trousers are too long do not rush to cut the pants. Try make the cuff.
First, mark new desired hem length and to this hem line and add down 7-9 cm.

Before you are adding a cuff to, make sure you have 7-9 cm excess length of pants legs.
Now you need to mark these lines, as shown.

Fold up a hem to the inside of your pants using the steam iron.

The cuff can be made in different ways. You can serge the edge of fabric or finish it with zig zag stitches. I offer you my own method of making cuff with trouser kick tape.

Kick tape is used in men's trouser hem. This tape protects the lower edge of pants from abrasion.

Place the kick tape along marked line on wrong side of trouser. Be sure that both lines (H) are the same and sew the tape with two stitch lines, as shown.

Iron your cuff on the wrong and right side of pants.

Next, you need fold the cuff over to the outside of your pants.

Fold your cuff so that the kick tape need be lower along the bottom edge of cuff about on 0.1-0.2. Press it well.

To keep the cuff in a bent position you may to do a few vertical stitches into the side seams the cuff.
You're all finished and you have cuffed pants!

A year later, when your boy grows up and his pants will be short you can remove all stitches holding the hem and kick tape and make new hem. Using this trick the length of pants leg can be increased by 5-6 cm.
